A Family Story
Lisa

I met Lisa Matthews shortly after I found out about my son, in October 2003.
In March 2004 my good friend Mary from Greenville, MS said that she had somebody she wanted me to meet, thought I would like her, thought it was a possibility.
I had just broken up with a woman and thought: That’s it for me, I don’t want anymore girlfriends, I’m gonna be a bachelor for the rest of my life it’s a good life for me. I think Lisa said the same thing because she had just gotten a divorce.
It was St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. We met for drinks at Cafe Frida on the Upper West Side. I met Lisa and fell in love with her immediately. Well, not really so much immediately but I liked her from the very beginning.
I invited Lisa out to Brooklyn to go bicycling. She said she didn’t have a bicycle. She came out anyway, borrowed my friend Allison’s bicycle, and we went riding.
I just liked her a whole bunch, so I kept on invited her to do stuff, and she kept accepting, just being very patient with me because it didn’t become a romantic relationship for quite a while.
I just thought she was really cool. I still do.
